Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is the main air gateway for Punta Cana and the east-coast resort region. The arrival itself is only one part of the plan: your hotel’s exact zone, your flight details, and the kind of transportation you reserve determine how easy the journey feels after baggage claim.

First, identify your resort zone

“Punta Cana” is often used for a much larger hotel region. Cap Cana and the original Punta Cana area sit closer to the airport, while Bávaro, El Cortecito, Arena Gorda, Macao, and Uvero Alto extend north along the coast. Two hotels marketed as Punta Cana can therefore have very different transfer times.

The Dominican Republic’s official tourism site gives useful orientation estimates from PUJ: about 15 minutes to Punta Cana and Cap Cana, 30 minutes to Bávaro, El Cortecito, and Arena Gorda, and 45 minutes to Macao and Uvero Alto. Treat those as planning estimates, not guarantees—traffic, weather, road work, terminal activity, and the exact hotel entrance can change the drive.

Use the full hotel name and address when reserving. Resort brands sometimes operate several properties with similar names.

What to provide when you book

After your flight, complete the airport’s required arrival steps and collect every checked bag before heading to the agreed meeting area. Keep your confirmation and support contact accessible without relying only on airport Wi-Fi. If baggage is delayed or you are held inside the terminal, contact the transfer team as soon as you can.

Do not accept a ride from someone who cannot identify your reservation or the agreed company. Match the representative’s details with the instructions in your confirmation before leaving the pickup area.

Planning the return to PUJ

A departure pickup needs more margin than the drive time alone. Work backward from the airline’s recommended airport arrival time, then add the estimated road journey and a sensible traffic buffer. Your pickup time should be based on the terminal departure—not simply on hotel checkout.
