The best airport in the Dominican Republic is usually not the one with the cheapest flight. It is the airport that gives you a practical route to your hotel, villa, cruise port, or first destination.

That distinction matters here. The Dominican Republic has several international gateways, and the country is large enough that choosing the wrong coast can add hours of road travel. The phrase “Punta Cana hotel” is not precise enough for transfer planning. Cap Cana and the airport area are relatively close to PUJ, while Bávaro, Macao, and Uvero Alto extend progressively farther north. Two properties marketed as being in Punta Cana can therefore require noticeably different routes.

Before reserving a Punta Cana airport transfer, provide the full hotel or villa name—not only the resort brand. If you are staying in a vacation rental, include the exact development, entrance, and a map pin when possible.

PUJ can also work for Bayahibe or La Romana when its flight schedule is substantially better than LRM’s. In that case, compare the complete journey rather than the airfare alone: flight arrival time, road transfer, party size, luggage, and the possibility of a late-night arrival all matter.

SDQ: the primary international airport for Santo Domingo

Las Américas International Airport is the normal international gateway for Santo Domingo. It is also convenient for Boca Chica and Juan Dolio, making it a strong choice for a capital-and-south-coast itinerary.

Santo Domingo is a large metropolitan area, so a reservation needs more than “Santo Domingo” as the destination. The Colonial Zone, Piantini, Gazcue, the Malecón, and other neighborhoods involve different city routes and traffic conditions. Some travelers find a better long-haul flight into SDQ even when their final stay is in Punta Cana. That trip is possible by private road transfer, but it is an inter-region journey rather than a local airport ride. LRM: the closest airport for Casa de Campo and a convenient Bayahibe option

La Romana International Airport—also called Casa de Campo International Airport—is the most convenient gateway for Casa de Campo, La Romana, Bayahibe, and Dominicus when the available flight works for your itinerary.

The Ministry of Tourism describes LRM as approximately 10 minutes from Casa de Campo and approximately 20 minutes from Bayahibe. Those figures are useful for orientation, but your actual time depends on the terminal process, resort entrance, villa access, and road conditions.

LRM has a more limited flight selection than PUJ or SDQ on many travel dates. Compare all three east/southeast gateways before committing. A convenient LRM arrival may reduce road time; a much better PUJ schedule may still produce the easier overall trip.

Gregorio Luperón International Airport serves Puerto Plata and the north-coast resort communities around Playa Dorada, Sosúa, and Cabarete. It is normally far more practical for these destinations than arriving in Punta Cana.

North-coast lodging is diverse: all-inclusive resorts, surf hotels, condos, villas, and guesthouses may use similar town names but have different entrances. Samaná El Catey International Airport, also known as Juan Bosch International Airport, is designed around access to the Samaná Peninsula. It can be the best arrival point for Las Terrenas, Santa Bárbara de Samaná, and Las Galeras.

Official tourism guidance places AZS at roughly 30 minutes from Las Terrenas and Santa Bárbara de Samaná, and about an hour from Las Galeras. These are orientation estimates. Rain, road conditions, exact lodging, and stops can affect the journey.

STI: best for Santiago and selected central or north-coast trips

Cibao International Airport primarily serves Santiago and the central Cibao region. It is useful for La Vega, Jarabacoa, Constanza, and some itineraries that combine the central mountains with the north coast.

STI can also act as an alternative for Puerto Plata-area stays, but it is not the local Puerto Plata airport. The lower airfare is only a saving if the longer ground transfer, arrival time, and vehicle requirements still make sense.
